Portia Powell

President and CEO, One Detroit Credit Union
Portia Powell has made history as the first woman and African American to serve as President and CEO of One Detroit Credit Union in its 90-year history. With more than two decades of experience in financial services, she is an award-winning servant leader recognized for her commitment to advancing financial inclusion and economic empowerment across Detroit. Under her leadership, One Detroit Credit Union has achieved significant growth, expanded into underserved communities, and launched innovative initiatives that promote access to fair and affordable financial solutions. A serial entrepreneur, Portia has launched several award-winning businesses dedicated to community impact, empowerment, and financial education. She is also an accomplished public speaker, having graced stages including TEDx, where she shares her journey of leadership, resilience, and purpose-driven success. Her work has earned her recognition as a Crain’s Detroit 40 Under 40 honoree, a Michigan Chronicle Woman of Excellence, and a Spirit of Detroit Award recipient. Portia’s career exemplifies visionary leadership rooted in service, innovation, and impact.

Jessie Hayes

Jessie Hayes is a visionary entrepreneur, educator and community leader who has transformed her passion for skincare into a powerful engine for economic mobility. Over the past decade, she has served more than 15,000 clients and built a nationally recognized reputation for excellence in esthetics education, business development and entrepreneurial leadership. As the former founder and CEO of Skinphorea Facial Bar, Hayes grew the brand to three locations in Michigan and Dallas before shifting her focus to a larger calling, The Hayes Institute of Esthetics & Entrepreneurship. Today, as CEO, she leads an institution with multiple campuses serving Wayne and Washtenaw County that merges esthetics licensing with real world business training to create meaningful, long term career pathways in the beauty and wellness industry. Hayes is driving a first of its kind model in partnership with the State of Michigan, leading credit unions, CDFIs and insurance partners to expand access to education, business funding and entrepreneurship support. Her programs equip aspiring and existing beauty professionals to launch, scale or rehabilitate businesses, positioning them to build sustainable income and generational wealth. Under her leadership, graduates have opened successful studios, clinics and beauty brands, strengthening the region’s entrepreneurial ecosystem and creating full time jobs throughout Metro Detroit. Deeply committed to empowering women and underrepresented founders, Hayes has mentored hundreds of entrepreneurs, helping them achieve financial independence, business readiness and long term stability. Through her companies, she has generated employment opportunities, advanced workforce development and reinvested directly into the communities she serves. A respected thought leader, Hayes is a Goldman Sachs 10KSB alumna and class speaker, an inaugural Ernst & Young Entrepreneurship cohort graduate, and a sought after speaker whose reach spans Detroit Startup Week to international business seminars in Rome and Florence. Her work has been featured in Black Enterprise, Rolling Out Magazine and DBusiness.
